Hypertension, or high blood pressure (BP), is a chronic condition where the force of blood against artery walls is consistently too high, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems. It is often called the “silent killer” because it may not show symptoms until complications arise. Risk factors include genetics, obesity, high salt intake, stress, and lack of exercise.
Diagnosis is made using a blood pressure reading, with normal levels being around 120/80 mmHg. Management includes lifestyle changes like a healthy diet, regular exercise, stress reduction, and medications if needed to maintain optimal blood pressure levels.
